Freshman Seminar Final Project

Your freshman seminar final is in two parts. Part two is a multiple-choice and short-answer test you will take on the exam day.

Part one is an electronic portfolio, which will be uploaded to my SharePoint site and used by guidance and the Career Center to help you get where you want to go in life. You will construct this portfolio using PowerPoint.

This project will be uploaded to my freshman seminar SharePoint site by the end of your exam block. Some work time will be allotted in class; conscientious students have already done much of the labor required for part one.

In your portfolio you should have (each piece is worth 10 points):

1.) Title page (NEW)

2.) 150-word intro/personal bio with photo (NEW)

3.) Personal mission statement (600 words), with illustrations (OLD, except for illustrations)

4.) Learning-style paragraph (OLD)

5.) Brain-dominance paragraph (OLD)

6.) Education plan summary, with college essay (250 words) written from Common Application (the application many of you will use for college) prompts below. (NEW, except you already did research on your college plans while researching a career track.)

* Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.

*  Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.

* Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.

* A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.

* Topic of your choice.

7.) Career-plan essay, based on Bridges workshop with Career Center. (OLD)

8.) One persuasive essay (OLD, you have written at least two of these in class.)

9.) Two additional samples of your work, either writing from class exercises or presentation. (OLD, if you do not have these, I may.)

10.) Skills-based resume. (NEW)

11.) Your three-year class sign-up plan (NEW)

12). A five-paragraph essay that asseses your effort and success in high school thus far (includes the academic, extra-curricular and social realms) and presents a plan for continued success or improvement. (NEW)
